SEELEY LAKE – The Seeley Lake Pond Hockey tournament came to a close Sunday. While the games went a long way toward helping bolster the town’s economy following last summer’s devastating fire season, for the players, it was just a good time.

The tournament, now in its eighth year, brings people together for a weekend of pure fun, and the least serious hockey you’re likely ever going to see.

But for one team, it was a near miss to the finish. The Sassy Little Minxes walked – or slipped – away victorious, but a series of unfortunate events nearly prevented them from even competing.

“On the way here we had a car accident, we had a car break down, we had a house fire, one of our friends that was going to play,” said Sassy Little Minx team captain Susan Meyer. “We had injuries, we had all of this stuff happen, and ended up getting a core group here and had some friends that were already here play for us, so it was pretty awesome.”
