BILLINGS – Announcing the addition of two more recruits on Tuesday, Montana State University Billings baseball head coach Aaron Sutton introduced Ty Wilson and Mitchell Winter for the upcoming 2019-20 academic year.

Wilson is a left-handed pitcher who will graduate from Ponderosa High School in Parker, Colorado, this spring. With his senior season currently underway, Wilson has doubled as both a pitcher and outfielder for the Mustangs over the last four years. “I chose MSUB because I have always loved the state of Montana,” said Wilson. “When I was on my visit, the campus was beautiful and the baseball coaches and players were fantastic. I felt like I was part of the team right when I got there. I have family in Bozeman and Bigfork. I love to hunt and fish, and I will have the opportunity to do so in Billings.”

“We are very excited to add Ty to our pitching staff next season,” said Sutton. “He has a ton of upside on the mound and should add some depth to our staff.”

Winter is a two-way player at Rio Rancho High School in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. He has played both first base and pitched, and has participated in baseball all four seasons under head coach Ron Murphy. Winter’s notable achievements include leading his team with 12 doubles, two home runs, an on-base percentage of .448, and a slugging percentage of .523. He is also a four-time academic award winner, and earned all-tournament honors at the New Mexico Invitational.

“After attending a couple of camps and getting to know Coach Sutton and his philosophy, I knew right away that I wanted to attend MSUB,” Winter said. “The coaches are very knowledgeable about the game, and have a winning attitude. They want to see their players grow both academically and on the field. I am very excited to attend this university, as well as be a part of the baseball team.”

“Mitchell is a great addition to our recruiting class,” Sutton said. “He adds left-handed hitter power potential. He comes from a very competitive high school program, and will bring an edge to this team.”

Wilson and Winter join 12 previous signings to bring the Yellowjackets’ total to 14 new players for the 2019-20 school year. MSUB (14-14, 14-6 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) is next in action this weekend with a four-game series against Saint Martin’s University. It will be the team’s 2019 home debut, with doubleheaders scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at Dehler Park.
