Former Havre star Parker Filius places 7th at U23 Men’s Freestyle World Team Trials

AKRON, Ohio — Former Havre High standout and current Purdue wrestler Parker Filius earned a seventh-place finish at the U23 Men’s Freestyle World Team Trials at the Louis and Freda Stile Athletic Field House in Akron, Ohio, on Sunday.

Filius finished the tournament winning eight of his 10 matches, recording six technical falls. He won his first two matches of the 128-man, 65-kilogram bracket before falling to eighth-seeded Carter Happel of Iowa in the Round of 32. Filius battled back through the consolation side, winning five consecutive matches to claim the seventh-place finish.

In the seventh-place match, Filius needed just 37 seconds to defeat Alex Madrigal of George Mason 10-0.

Filius became a four-time high school state champion in 2017. He won titles at 138, 145, 152 and 145 pounds.

At Purdue, Filius redshirted in 2017-18 and wrestled his freshman season at 149 pounds, starting every dual for the Boilermakers. He compiled a 3-14 dual record and a 9-20 overall record.
