GLENDIVE – Dawson Community College fell one game short of reaching the DII JUCO National Tournament for the first time on Thursday losing 15-2 to Kirkwood Community College.

After winning Wednesday’s best-of-three opener 1-0, the Bucs lost their next two to Kirkwood surrendering the District H Championship to the team from Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Kirkwood scored first on a London Jackson home run. It was her 23rd on the year (2nd best in the nation).

DCC answered with a two-run homer from freshman Ashlyn Tinge. But those were the only runs Dawson would score.

The Eagles added two more in the fifth inning, three in the sixth inning and put it away with a nine-run seventh inning to win the championship and qualify for nationals.

Dawson closes the season 43-5, their best season ever at the D2 level and the closest they had ever come to nationals.

Six sophomores will graduate off this year’s team.
