NANAIMO, B.C., Canada – The Corban University women’s basketball team officially began the year on Sunday, and for the second-straight day, the Warriors walked away with the victory against Vancouver Island University. Sunday’s result was an important one, as it counted, and the Warriors downed the Mariners, 55-47.

“We got off to a great start and really set the tone early,” said Corban head coach Bill Pilgeram. “It was a tough situation on the second day with a short turnaround, and the team really responded well. VIU is a good team that played very hard and made things difficult. We will be better as a result of these games.”

The Navy and Gold led from start to finish, commanding control of the game from the opening tip.

“Defense and rebounding were very good, especially down the stretch today,” said Pilgeram. “It was a game of runs, and we ended the game on a great run.”

Corban (1-0) returns to the court on Monday, October 29, when it takes on William Jessup University. Tipoff in Rocklin, Calif., is slated for 7 p.m.
