MONTEREY, Calif. – A course fit for Otters prevented the completion of the Cal State University Monterey Bay Invitational on Tuesday at Poppy Hills Golf Club, as standing water on the course spoiled Montana State University Billings’ women’s golf team’s final round.

Rain fell from the opening tee times on the par-71, 5,804-yard course until play was halted in mid-afternoon due to the inclement weather. “It’s a bummer because we were playing much better today,” commented Yellowjacket assistant coach Jeff Allen. “I am proud of the team for how they responded to the poor conditions today. They battled back after yesterday’s round, and they were really improving.”

Officially, the tournament will stand as an 18-hole, single-round event. The Yellowjackets finished in 20th place as they shot a 338 as a team on Monday. Read the full recap from the opening day of the event online here.

“CSU Monterey Bay and Poppy Hills were first-class hosts, and it was too bad the event had to end this way,” said Allen.

NEXT UP: The ‘Jackets have two tournaments left on the schedule before the 2018 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships on April 23-24 at the Coeur d’Alene Resort in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. The MSUB women will next be in action at the Western New Mexico University Invitational on April 9-10 at Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Ariz.
