Wyoming Cowboys head to San Jose State Saturday

LARAMIE, Wyo.– After an impressive double overtime win at home on Wednesday over No. 23 Nevada, Wyoming embarks on a two game road swing beginning at San José State on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. MT. Wyoming and SJSU have met 13 other times on the hardwood with the Pokes holding a 11-2 lead in the all-time series.

The game will be streamed on the Mountain West Network. Fans can watch, listen and follow live stats on GoWyo.com. The game will be broadcast live on radio over the 25 affiliate stations of the Cowboy Sports Network. Dave Walsh will have the play-by-play alongside Kevin McKinney on the color.

The Pokes head to San José State with a 13-7 overall record and a 4-3 mark in the Mountain West. Wyoming is one of the nation’s best teams at the charity stripe this season with 384 makes to lead the MW and rank fifth nationally. Wyoming has converted on 75 percent of those chances for second in the MW and No. 50 in the nation.

The Pokes continue to be one the nation’s top defensive rebounding teams grabbing 29.3 per game for second in the league and No. 10 in the nation. Wyoming is also second in the conference in turnovers forced at 14.7 per game, which ranks No. 86 in the nation.

San José State is 3-16 overall and 0-8 in the conference. The Spartans rank third in the conference and No. 47 in the nation in turnover margin at +5.2 per game. SJSU has struggled turning the ball over averaging 17.6 per game for the most in the nation this season.

SJSU and their opponents are shooting 43 percent from the field this season. Opposing teams are hitting 9.3 three pointers per game with the Spartans averaging 5.6 per game. SJSU put up 15.3 triples per game, as that number is the fewest in the MW this season.

The Pokes are led in scoring by junior guard Justin James. He leads the Cowboys at 18.1 points per game this season for fourth in the MW. He averages 20.7 points per game in conference play. He is sixth in the MW in made free throws with 89 on the season. Senior forward Hayden Dalton adds 17.6 points per game for sixth in the league. He also leads the Pokes in rebounding at 8.3 per game, which ranks fourth in the league.

Senior forward Alan Herndon adds 12.7 points per game. He leads the conference in total blocks at 46, which is No. 27 in the nation. Senior guard Louis Adams adds 9.9 points off the UW bench. Adams is No. 10 in the MW with 76 made free throws this season.

The Spartans are led by Ryan Welage, as he averages 17.5 points per game for seventh in the MW. He is No. 12 in the MW in field goal percentage at 46 percent. He is second on the team grabbing 5.2 rebounds per game. Keith Fisher adds 8.4 points per game for second on SJSU. He leads the team in rebounding at 5.7 per night. He has also dished out a team-high 36 assists this season.

The Cowboys lead the all-time series 7-0 with the first meeting coming in 1965. Wyoming is 4-2 all-time in San Jose including a win last season at SJSU by a score of 80-70 on Jan. 18.

Wyoming continues their road swing next Wednesday heading to Colorado State for the second edition of the ‘Border War’. That contest is set for a 7 p.m. start on AT&T SportsNet.
