Olivia Roberts, Wyoming Cowgirls win 6th straight

RENO, Nev. — The Wyoming Cowgirls improved to 6-1 in the Mountain West Conference with a 65-62 women’s basketball win at Nevada on Wednesday.

Former Missoula Sentinel High School star Olivia Roberts had eight points, three rebounds, two assists and one block for the Cowgirls, who made 11 of 21 3-pointers as a team. Roberts missed both of her attempts from beyond the arc, but Selale Kepenc, Marta Gomez and Natalie Baker combined to make 10 of 16 3-point attempts.

Gomez hit a 3 to give Wyoming the lead for good with 10 seconds remaining. The game was tied nine times and featured 14 lead changes. Neither team led by more than six points.

Roberts entered the game averaging a team-high 12.9 points per game, but eight Cowgirls found the scoring column on Wednesday. Five players scored at least eight points. Jade Redmon scored 16 points to lead Nevada.

Wyoming (13-5 overall, 6-1 conference) has now won six consecutive games and sits atop the Mountain West standings, just ahead of UNLV (10-7, 5-1). The Cowgirls return home to face San Jose State at 2 p.m. Saturday.
