GLENDIVE – After returning from the holiday break, the Lady Buccaneers of Dawson Community College resumed non-conference play at Sheridan College.  This would be the second matchup between the teams with DCC winning the first game in overtime in Glendive 73-66.  This time, however, the tables turned as the Lady Generals of Sheridan were able to take advantage of their home court and defeat DCC 77-70.

It didn’t look good for the Lady Bucs as they sent Sheridan to the free throw line 36 times and they converted that to 26 points.  Both teams shot a good percentage from the foul line, were comparable in rebounds, turnovers, steals and fouls, but Sheridan was able to squeeze by with a few more points.  Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. dealt with personnel in foul trouble, “It was tough to know that we had some of our scoring punch in foul trouble.  Though we believe our bench support can contribute, a habitual problematic issue of ours has been points off the bench.  So that kind of hurt us along with some simple missed buckets, some lack of defensive assignments and forgetting offensive formations.  Somehow I was still pleased with our overall effort and I believe it’s going to be a matter of time when it all smooths out for our benefit.”  Sheridan received 37 points off the bench to DCC’s 8.

Freshmen MacKinzie Verke and Alexius Foster led the game with 15 points apiece.  Lexia Bell-White had 12, while Emily Harwood netted 11.  Ejanae Coopwood contributed with 9 points, 9 rebounds and a game high 3 steals.

DCC opens up in their first conference game on the road against Williston State College on Monday, January 8th, 2018 at 5:30 pm.
