HELENA — Helena Capital bested Helena High in a crosstown wrestling dual on Tuesday evening, 51-24. The Bruins were ranked No. 5 in the latest Class AA coaches poll.
Ten of the 11 contested matches were decided by pin, with only the 132-pound match going the distance. Capital’s Wyatt Schnider defeated Cameron Wyant by decision, 13-7.
Two top-six wrestlers went head-to-head in the 160-pound match, as Capital’s Tristyn Gilliam took on Helena High’s Devin Crawford. Crawford, the top-ranked Class AA wrestler at 160 pounds, made quick work of Gilliam, taking down and pinning the Helena High grappler in just 36 seconds.
In other matches, Carson DeRosier of Helena Capital, ranked second at 120 pounds, made quick work of Cadence Dixon, winning by pinfall just more than a minute into the first period. Capital’s Noah Kovick, ranked third at 170 pounds, pinned his opponent Kaleb McKay in the second period.
Capital boasts two wrestlers ranked in the top four at 205 pounds — Zane McCormick second and Josh Lee fourth. McCormick won by pinning his opponent Ruger Young in the first period, while Lee moved up to 285 to wrestle Helena High’s Michael Gulden. Lee pinned Gulden in the second period.
