BILLINGS – In more than 60 years of Billings Senior High School wrestling, there has been only one four-time state champion.

Charlie Klepps came into his senior year hoping to become the second.

“He’s worked so hard. I don’t know anybody who has worked as hard as he has,” said Christine Klepps, Charlie’s mom.

Thirteen years of Charlie’s life led up to a Saturday night in February at MetraPark in Billings when he made history, becoming just the 32nd wrestler in state history to win four state titles.

“We walked out for the finals and started warming up and stuff,” said Charlie. “I was kind of like, ‘I’ve done everything I can at that point. There’s no reason to be nervous now.'”

His family and friends watched on as Charlie dominated the last round of his match, defeating Jaden MacNeil of Kalispell for the state title.

“I wanted to try and remember every single second of it, because it could be the last time forever,” said Christine Klepps.

Christine was in tears the last 30 seconds of the match when she realized all his hard work had paid off.

“I don’t know if there is a better accomplishment in the state of Montana, in any sport,” said Josh Beeman, the Senior High wrestling coach.
