State C volleyball roundup: Belt sweeps past Simms in all-North undefeated semifinal

BOZEMAN — Morgan Cooper had 10 kills and 26 kills to help lead Belt to a 25-21, 25-14, 25-23 sweep over Simms in the undefeated semifinal match of the Class C state volleyball tournament Friday at Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.

With the win, the Huskies advance to the State C championship match for the fourth consecutive season. Belt won the 2016 championship and added runner-up finishes in 2015 and 2017.

Cooper led a balanced offensive attack on Friday, as Abby Gliko added eight kills and Kylie Marquis seven. Kolby Pimperton had 30 assists.

Defensively, Belt recorded 11 blocks — getting three from Shelby Paulson — to slow Simms’ powerful offense. Lissy Willekes had 10 kills and sister Janessa had six. Janessa Willekes also had two aces and six digs.

Simms will now play Bridger in Saturday’s third-place match at 11 a.m. Belt will play meet the winner of that match for the championship at 1 p.m. Saturday.

BRIDGER DEF. MANHATTAN CHRISTIAN 25-12, 25-11, 25-17

Jessica Adkins had nine kills and three aces as Bridger swept past Manhattan Christian 25-12, 25-11, 25-17 in the fourth-place match at the Class C state volleyball tournament on Friday. Jenna Kallevig added eight kills for the Scouts, who will now play in Saturday’s third-place match against Simms. The two teams met in Thursday’s first round with Simms winning a five-set thriller.

Desiree Jones Scott had two blocks, and Kyra Kroll had 17 digs for the Scouts on Friday. Emily Adkins had 15 assists and Sami Fusco 11.

Manhattan Christian was led by Kiersten VanKirk’s eight kills.
