FLORENCE – The Florence Falcons have played hosts and put on a show at the Western B divisional volleyball tournament this week. Florence rolled into the championship match and clinched a spot at the state tournament with another dominating performance Friday night.

The top seed from District 6B took down the surprise third-place team from District 7B, Thompson Falls, in the semifinal. Florence dominated the first set 25-10, and then held off the Bluehawks in the next two closer sets, 25-17, 25-19.

Florence will play in the championship match at 1 p.m. Saturday. First, Thompson Falls will battle Deer Lodge in a loser-out match at 11 a.m. The winner will clinch the Western B’s second ticket to state and move on to battle the Falcons in the final.

In loser-out matches earlier on Friday, Missoula Loyola held off St. Ignatius 3-2; Deer Lodge swept out 7B champion Eureka 3-0; Loyola stayed alive again with a 3-0 victory over Anaconda; and Deer Lodge also won for a second time, 3-2 over Bigfork. Then Loyola and Deer Lodge collided for their third match of the day. Deer Lodge advanced with a 3-0 sweep.
