Western C divisional volleyball tournament: Gardiner, Manhattan Christian advance to semifinal

CHURCHILL — Eight schools from the Western C Division gathered at the Manhattan Christian Event Center on Thursday for rounds one and two of the divisional tournament.

In match one, Manhattan Christian swept Alberto-Superior in three- 25-11, 25-16, and 25-14. Kiersten VanKirk led the team with nine kills and one block.

The second match of the day was between Plains and Twin Bridges and the Falcons swept as well- 25-18, 25-16, and 25-15. Riah Edsall also led Twin Bridges in kills and blocks with nine and three respectively.

In match three, Ennis beat Charlo in four, 3-1.

Match four also ended in a sweep, Gardiner topped Seeley-Swan 25-12, 25-18, and 25-13. Josie Thomas led the Lady Bruins in kills, spiking eleven of the team’s 42.

In the quarterfinals, Manhattan Christian beat Twin Bridges in five 30-28, 26-24, 19-25, 20-25, and 15-11. The most impressive statistic came from the Eagles, they nearly tripled their amount of digs compared to their competitor- 79 to the Falcons 23.

To close day one of the tournament, Gardiner beat Ennis in five to advance to the semi-final game against Manhattan Christian.
