Helena High takes top spot in Class AA volleyball coaches poll

Helena High has moved to the top of the most recent Class AA volleyball coaches poll, which was released late Monday.

The Bengals took seven first-place votes after sweeping then-No. 1 Helena Capital 25-22, 27-25, 25-20 last Tuesday. Helena High then swept Missoula Big Sky 25-9, 25-14, 25-11 on Thursday to improve to 15-2 overall and 6-0 in the Western AA, helping secure the No. 1 ranking in this week’s poll.

Capital (15-2 overall, 5-1 Western AA) fell just one spot to second this week and still received two first-place votes. Billings Senior (17-4, 5-1), Kalispell Flathead (10-8, 4-2) and Billings West (10-7, 4-2) round out the top five. Those three teams were ranked last week, as well, with Flathead and West swapping places this week.

Missoula Sentinel (11-7, 3-3) and Bozeman (12-5, 4-2) also received votes. The Spartans have won the past two Class AA state championships.

The results of the weekly Class AA coaches poll can be found below. Teams receive five points for first-place votes, four points for second-place votes, three for third-place votes, two for a fourth-place selection and a single point for a fifth-place vote. First-place votes in parentheses.
