BIGFORK — Bigfork’s Susan Loeffler was named girls track and field coach of the year by the National High School Athletic Coaches Association last week.

Loeffler has instructed Viking and Val track athletes for 45 years in Bigfork. Despite all of her success, she never thought an award like this was possible.

“I have been blessed with some amazing athletes, especially in the last few years. They are so much fun. The winning is the icing on the cake,” she said. “It’s the relationships and how hard they work and how they respond to you, is to me the neatest thing about coaching. I was very surprised. I got pretty emotional. I didn’t expect it.”

Loeffler has coached three state championship girls track and field teams at Bigfork, including back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018.
