With the Montana high school track and field regular season winding down, several new state-best marks were set as the 2019 state track and field qualifiers list continues to expand.
Billings West’s Connor Ryan has taken the mantle as Montana’s fastest sprinter after posting state-best times in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes at the Kelly Walsh Invitational in Casper, Wyo.
Noxon’s Levi Brubaker, the defending State C triple jump champion, posted Montana’s best triple jump over the weekend at the Russ Pilcher Top 10. Brubaker is the first Montana triple jumper to hit the 45-foot mark this season.
Charlo standout sophomore Carlee Fryberger posted Class C’s top time in the 100-meter hurdles this season at the Russ Pilcher Top 10 meet where she finished fourth. Fryberger became the first Class C girl to break the 16-second mark this season.
Glendive’s Karsen Murphy posted Class A’s No. 2 triple jump and is just inches behind the Class A leader, Miles City’s Dezi Chamberlin. Murphy and Chamberlin are both within reach of the State A girls triple jump record. Murphy also owns Class A’s top high jump mark.
Each classification now uses qualifying standards (which are included in parentheses next to each class in each event below) that give athletes an opportunity during the regular season to secure berths at their respective state meets. Athletes can still qualify for their state meets at their divisional meets, but that’s not a necessity. If athletes hit a qualifying standard at any point during the season, they’re guaranteed a spot at the state meet, regardless of their performance at the divisional meet.
