GREAT FALLS — It’s one thing when two track and field athletes from the same school are the best in the state at any given event. It’s another thing when they’re sisters, and Anna and Kylie Zimmer have done exactly that.

As of April 17, the Lewistown sisters have the top two girls shot put marks in all classes. Anna, a senior, sits in first with a mark of 40 feet, 7.5 inches, which she hit twice this week. Kylie’s throw of 40-01.25 inches, a personal record for the sophomore, places her second. The girls said their success comes from practicing together.

“We don’t use it as a competition as like, butting heads, a reason to fight over it. We just encourage each other. Hope for the best for each throw,” Kylie said.

The Zimmers have also each qualified for the State A meet in the discus. Kylie has the second-farthest throw in Class A with a mark of 123-09 and Anna is fourth with a throw of 118-00. Kylie also has a top-10 all-class mark in javelin, but the sisters said javelin isn’t a priority compared to shot put and discus.

By the end of the season, Anna said she would like to throw around 47 feet in shot put. Kylie wants to throw 42 feet in shot put and hit 130 feet in discus.
