Frenchtown boys, Missoula Hellgate girls win Frenchtown Quad

FRENCHTOWN — The Frenchtown boys track and field team rolled to victory at Wednesday’s Frenchtown Quad track meet, while the Missoula Hellgate girls pulled away from Frenchtown to win on the girls side.

Frenchtown’s stud sophomore Jace Klucewich won all three events he entered on Wednesday afternoon. Klucewich claimed the 100-meter dash in 11.14 seconds, the 200-meter dash in 23.07 and ran the anchor leg on Frenchtown’s winning 400-meter relay team, which crossed in 45.01.

Klucewich was just one of several individual winners from Frenchtown. Tyler Schmautz claimed victories in the 400 (52.58) and 800 (2 minutes, 3.63 seconds). The only event Frenchtown didn’t win on the track was the 1,600-meter run, which Missoula Hellgate’s Lucca Wellenstein in 5:01.10.

Missoula Hellgate’s distance runners did the heavy lifting to push the Knights to the girls team title on Wednesday. The 1,600-meter relay team crossed 18 seconds ahead of second-place Drummond. Hellgate placed four girls in the top six of the 800, as Ember Stratton, Elise Stearns, Katie Munro and Sabrina Bryant took second, third, fourth and sixth, respectively. Frenchtown’s Natalie Yocum ran a Class A-best 2:25.81 to win the 800.

Hellgate got a victory in the 1,600 from Mia Foster, who crossed in 6:00.90. Teammate Aileen Beaton finished second. Hellgate won the 400-meter relay, too.
