HAVRE — Despite being just more than two weeks into the track and field season, some athletes are already qualifying for state, including Cut Bank’s Kamdyn Molenda. The senior sprinter won the girls 100-meter dash at the Cal Wearly Memorial meet in Havre last Wednesday with a time of 13.06 seconds.

“It’s pretty cool. It’s been a goal of mine, and I was hoping to do it early,” Molenda said.

Molenda finished sixth at the Class B state meet last year and said her goal for this season was to make it back and finish higher this year. Her time at the Cal Wearly is the best in Class B this season.

“Definitely wasn’t expecting this (Saturday),” Molenda said. “I put in a lot this winter. I was in there about every day working.”

Molenda has finished first in the 100 in all three of her meets this year. She finished first only once last season, at the District 1B meet with a personal record of 12.93.
