MISSOULA — On Tuesday evening Hamilton visited Frenchtown in the battle of the Broncs in a crucial Southwestern A softball game.

In the end, it was the home team eking out a 5-4 win to stay atop the league standings.

In the first inning, both teams came out firing. Hamilton scored quickly to take a two-run lead, but Frenchtown followed suit as Cassidy Moen blasted a three-run home run to dead center to take a 3-2 lead.

Hamilton hung tough on the road as Jorden Taggart blasted a two-run RBI double to retake the lead.

But with two on and two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, Frenchtown got a bit of luck when a pop-up to right field was dropped and the tying run scored.

Then, in the eighth inning, Frenchtown loaded the bases with no outs. Layne Bauer came up and shot one deep enough through the middle of the infield to score the run and take it 5-4.
