CHURCHILL — The Manhattan Christian boys and girls golf teams nearly had their celebration of a firetruck ride around town to show off their new state titles cancelled by a fire. But the Amsterdam Fire Department was able to send one of its trucks to still make the trip around Churchill on Tuesday afternoon.
The Eagles’ boys and girls golf teams swept the team titles at the State C golf tournament at Seeley Lake last week. It was the boys second consecutive title, led by sophomore Caidin Hill, who won the individual crown.
It also marked the third consecutive for the girls, who become the first Class C girls golf program to three-peat at state since the classification began holding its own tournaments in 2000.
“To put together a team for three years in a row, the years before that, before being here they didn’t really have a golf program and it wasn’t really something this school was known for,” said Eagles senior Jillian Frye, who won the individual state crown in 2018 and finished runner-up last week. “And now it’s like what we’re known for because our girls team has three and our guys went back-to-back. So it really just shows how hard work pays off in the end.”
