MISSOULA — It’s time to meet another nominee for student-athlete of the year at the KPAX Sports Awards Banquet, Missoula Sentinel Spartan Rylan Ortt.

The senior impressed on the football field in 2018 as the starting quarterback and defensive back, finishing with first-team all-state honors on his way to signing with Montana State. Ortt has also been stellar in the javelin, throwing more than 200 feet this year and cracking the top five in the nation.

The three-sport athlete says he’s excited to take the next step at MSU.

“I’m pretty excited about going over to Bozeman, it’s a great town,” said Ortt. “Meet a lot of new guys and make friends with all the football guys, of course, but meet new friends at the school, and it’s nice to get away from your parents for a bit but be close enough to come home. They have a great school over there. I’ll probably go into business or something like that.”

Ortt, the rest of our nominees, and three very deserving adults will be honored at the KPAX Sports Awards Banquet. Missoula native and current Central Michigan football coach Jim McElwain will come back home as our guest speaker. Join us at the Hilton Garden Inn Wednesday, May 15 at 5:30 p.m.
