MISSOULA — We are closing in on another KPAX Sports Awards Banquet, and now it’s time to meet another one of the nominees for student-athlete of the year, Missoula Sentinel’s Ashley McElmurry.

The track star has already won 10 medals at state meets, and she’s reaching new heights during her senior year. McElmurry currently has the fastest times in the state in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles and has the second-best leaps in the long and triple jumps.

She also played soccer and basketball at Sentinel, all while totaling a 3.78 GPA. She can’t wait to compete at the next level when she joins the Nebraska track team next year.

“I’m really excited to just go live in a new place,” said McElmurry. “I love Montana, but I think it will just be really fun to get to experience something new and then also just meet a lot of new people. I’ve been really lucky. I’ve had a lot of great coaches here at Sentinel, especially in the track program, and also in my soccer and basketball programs. But it’s just been really awesome, I’ve had such a great support group. It’s been a lot of fun. And I wouldn’t want to be a part of any other team.”

McElmurry and the rest of our nominees will be honored at the KPAX Sports Awards Banquet on Wednesday night at the Hilton Garden Inn.
