MISSOULA — We are closing in on another KPAX Sports Awards Banquet. Now it’s time to start meeting our nominees for student-athlete of the year.

The boys selection from Missoula Big Sky is Wyatt Shinn. He finished sixth in his weight class at state wrestling this year, became an honorable mention all-conference selection on the football field, competes in track, and has been very active in 4-H for 13 years.

Through that busy schedule Shinn carries a 3.2 GPA. He feels the activities he tackles in high school helped prepare him to attend Montana State, where he plans to major in pre-med or business.

“It really keeps you out of trouble,” said Shinn about his slate of activities. “It really keeps you honest. It makes you work hard in school, because you don’t want to fall behind. It teaches a really good work ethic. It really makes you into a better person, having more stuff on your plate.”

Shinn and the rest of our nominees, as well as three other very deserving adults will be honored at the KPAX Sports Awards Banquet on Wednesday night. Missoula native and Central Michigan football coach Jim McElwain will be our guest speaker at the Hilton Garden Inn.
