BUTTE – Justus Verge came into Day 2 of the Class AA state golf tournament the leader in the boys division after shooting a 66 on Day 1. Day 2 came and the Bozeman Hawk struggled a bit, and Billings Skyview’s Cody Brunner made a run at him for the crown, as did Verge’s twin brother, Jordan. Justus Verge ultimately had a good enough lead to keep him safe and win the title on Friday.

For defending girls runner-up, Annika Danenhauer of Bozeman, the road wasn’t so easy. She had to contend with Billings West’s Carrie Carpenter and come back from a five-stroke deficit on Day 2. Carpenter had an off day and missed a crucial putt on 18 that left the door open for Danenhauer to steal the title and complete the Bozeman sweep.

The Hawks won the boys and girls team championships. For complete results and video highlights, please click here.
