Ryggs Johnston wins Hamilton Invite; Stevensville boys, Polson girls take team titles

HAMILTON — Ryggs Johnston continues to dominate the high school golf scene.

The Libby phenom won the one-day Hamilton Invite at Hamilton Golf Club with a 6-under-par 66 last Saturday, but the Logger boys finished in sixth place.

Stevensville won the team race by six strokes. The Yellowjackets were led by Zel Frost and Jayce Painter, who both shot 5-over-par 77s.

Stevensville had four golfers finish in the top nine, rounded out by Ivan Yazvac, who shot 79, and Jacob Watters, who shot 82. Hamilton finished just six shots off the pace of Stevensville. Tristan Hanson led the Broncs with an even-par 72, finishing second.

Butte Central’s Tricia Joyce won the girls individual tournament by seven shots, shooting an 8-over-par 80, but Polson’s girls walked away with the team title.

Cali Cannon shot 94 to place sixth and Amanda Farley shot 99 to finish in a tie for 11th to lead the Pirates. Corvallis and Hamilton tied for second place. Hamilton did not have a golfer finish in the top 10, but had three in the top 15. Corvallis’ Macee Greenwood finished second with an 87.
