Colstrip girls, Huntley Project boys win Colstrip Cross Country Invitational titles

COLSTRIP — Colstrip runner Whitney Hanson ran a personal-best time at Friday’s Colstrip Cross Country Invitational to help the Fillies to the team title.

Hanson, a senior, crossed the finish line in 19 minutes, 5.40 seconds to just edge Shantell Pretty On Top of Lodge Grass for the first-place finish at Ponderosa Butte Golf Course. Pretty On Top finished in 19:05.96. Natalie Lile of Huntley Project placed third with a time of 19:54.19, while Colstrip rounded out the top five with Hayley Burns and Zoey Stroop finishing with times of 20:02.53 and 20:24.45, respectively.

The Red Lodge girls, who were led by Katie Jacobsen in sixth place, finished second in the team standings. Lodge Grass was third and Huntley Project fourth.

The Red Devil boys out-paced St. Labre for the first-place team finish. Red Lodge was third, followed by Lodge Grass, Shepherd and Colstrip.

Joliet’s Jakob May was the top boys finisher, crossing the line in 17:33.48. Shepherd’s Patrick Richardson (17:44.21), Huntley Project’s Kyle Schaff (17:54.91), Plenty Coups’ Marlan Goes Ahead (18:15.30) and Red Lodge’s Drew Williams (18:19.84) completed the top five.
