Butte girls, Lewistown boys cross country take 1st at Butte Central Invitational

FAIRMONT – The Butte Central cross country invitational was Tuesday at Fairmont Golf Club. Runners from high schools all over the area competed in absolutely gorgeous running conditions at the scenic Fairmont Resort and Country Club.

On the girls varsity side, it was a battle that was decided by less than a second. Sophomore Aubrey Corcoran of Butte High School won the 5K race with a time of 21 minutes, 54.10 seconds. Right behind her was Dillon sophomore Madalen Shipman, finishing second with a final time of 21:54:90. Anaconda senior Sarah Griffis placed third in 22:26.50.

Butte had three top-10 finishers on its way to grabbing the event’s team title on the girls side. Dillon placed second, followed by Anaconda, Lewistown and Butte Central.

On the boys side, Lewistown’s Sam Fulbright dominated this race from start to finish, beating the next-fastest runner by more than a minute, winning in 17:34.70. Conor Pierson of Livingston took second in 18:40.90.

Lewistown took the overwhelming team title, placing four runners in the top five. Livingston placed second followed by Butte, Anaconda and Dillon.
