KALISPELL — Kalispell Flathead senior soccer player Skyleigh Thompson has been named to the preseason All-American list and a finalist for the high school All-American game to be played on May 29, 2021 in St. Louis, Missouri.

"I was shocked, and obviously it's a great honor," said Thompson. "But obviously still have to work towards the team part of it, but just shocked by that one."

The list is made up of the best girls soccer players from around the entire nation. Thompson was the lone Montanan to make the list. While she said she's focused on the season, the recognition gives her a confidence boost.

"I'm going to try to keep that to try to make me better, instead of less as I would before," said Thompson. "I think it is a confidence boost heading into my senior season just having that behind me."

Thompson led Class AA in scoring last season with 24 goals and 13 assists en route to her third all-state season in three years.

"My team has a big part to do with that," said Thompson. "I wouldn't be where I am without the help of my teammates. I do my best to work hard at it because there's something I always need to improve on."

Thompson is committed to play for the University of Montana soccer program in 2021.

"It's just exciting that such an amazing soccer school is so close to where I've grown up," said Thompson. "I feel very special that the coaches have recruited me to be a part of that program. I'm really excited to join the Griz family and be a part of that."
