GLENDIVE – Tri-City 5’10” wing player Brianna Bergum of has signed her NJCAA National Letter of Intent with Dawson Community College.

Tri-City, a co-op of Hobson, Moore and Judith Gap, went 19-6 overall with a 10-2 record in conference this past season. The Lady Titans were crowned the District 8C conference champions, before losing out in the Northern C Divisional tournament.

Brianna played varsity for all four years. In her junior and senior years, she led her team in scoring. She averaged 13 points, 9 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists a game. As a freshman, she was the team’s best defensive player. Her sophomore year, she was voted District 8C 2nd Team All-Conference and led her team in most rebounds. In her junior season, she was voted District 8C 1st Team All-Conference, Class C All-State, and once again led her team in rebounding and was named Team’s Most Valuable Offensive Player. In her senior year, Brianna was once again voted 1st Team All-Conference, Class C All-State and was voted Team’s Offensive MVP. In addition to all her athletic accolades, Brianna was Academic All-State for all four years of her high school career.

Unfortunately, Brianna incurred an ACL injury during this year’s Hi-Line Invitational Tournament (HIT) held annually in Havre. Prior to the HIT, she displayed her talented skill work at the Treasure State Classic in Billings. Brianna represented the C North squad at the Treasure State, and won the tournament championship for the first time ever for Class C. She was named to the All-Tournament Team. The plan is for her to redshirt for the Lady Buccaneers, continue rehabilitation, assist on the sideline and learn Coach Romeo Lagmay’s system, and prepare for action in the 2020-2021 season.

Head Girl’s Basketball Coach Roger Derks was happy for Brianna’s signing, “Probably Brianna’s greatest strength is her versatility on the floor. She can defend all positions and offensively can play in the paint or on the perimeter. I am so happy for her. Brianna has a great work ethic and certainly deserves the opportunity to continue her basketball career.”

DCC Coach Lagmay was also excited about his in-state signing, “This was a no-brainer for us. Brianna is a worker! She knows hoops and loves the game. Her IQ is going to do wonders for us as well. I’ve seen Bri grow up in this game since her freshman year, and she has evolved into a ‘player.’ Whether she plays inside or out, offensively or defensively, she will make an impact; and because of that, Dawson landed a gem!”

Brianna is very positive about her future in Glendive, “I chose Dawson because while having to go through an ACL reconstruction, Coach Lagmay never doubted my abilities. I also chose DCC because I feel like it is the perfect spot to start my future. Dawson has a great program going right now and it will allow me to do my recovery while still being a part of the program. I am beyond excited to continue my career of playing basketball as a Buccaneer.”
