Hot start paces Billings Central girls past Miles City, 71-56

BILLINGS – Near perfect play early at both ends of the court boosted Billings Central’s girls basketball team to a 10-0 lead over Miles City Thursday and the Rams never looked back in a 71-56 Eastern A win.

Isabelle Erickson hit four 3-pointers in the first quarter and a half to give Central a spark. The Rams built a 19-8 lead after one, then increased it to 38-23 at halftime. They maintained a 15-point lead after the third quarter before closing out with a 15-point margin of victory.

The Rams (12-2 overall, 5-1 Eastern A) drew to within a game of Laurel for the Eastern A lead. Miles City falls to 5-10 overall, 2-7 in conference.

Central’s boys picked up a road win at Miles City, 65-57. They improve to 13-1, 6-0 and cling to the conference lead over Hardin (13-1, 8-1). The Cowboys drop to 5-10, 3-6.

Central and Hardin play their rematch Saturday night at Rimrock Auto Arena. The girls’ game is set for 6 p.m. with the boys to follow at 7:30. Central swept the season’s first meeting.
