BUTTE – The Butte High Bulldog football team is going back to the playoffs for the first time since 2013.
The Bulldogs go into the Class AA football playoffs as the No. 7 seed, which pins them against second-seeded Billings West.
Earlier in the season, Billings West dominated Butte, forcing six Bulldog turnovers and winning by more than four touchdowns. This time around, however, Butte High head coach Arie Grey and his team know they’ve improved immensely from that day. With nothing to lose and all to gain, the Bulldogs are ready to give the Golden Bears all they can handle come Friday.
“You look at the last time we played them, we turned the ball over six times, we didn’t take care of the ball and protect the program. This week, the idea is, ‘Hey, take care of the ball, have some fun. We have nothing to lose. You know, they’re the two-seed, we’re the seven-seed. Let’s just fly around and play Butte High football, and good things will happen,'” said Grey.
“I think we’re a lot more prepared this time. Our run defense is a lot better than it was when we played them last time, and we’re running the ball a lot better than we did when we played them Week 6,” said Bulldogs wide receiver Kale McCarthy.
