BILLINGS – And down the stretch they come.

Only two games remain in Class AA football’s regular season and Billings West controls sole possession of second place behind unbeaten Bozeman.

The Bears (7-1), along with Billings Senior, are already locked into this year’s playoffs. A big reason is the production of Jesse Owens on both sides of the ball making big plays at receiver and defensive back.

He just helped West bump off Missoula Sentinel on the road, 34-28, scoring three touchdowns in the second half.

“He had a good week of practice,” Bears head coach Rob Stanton told MTN Sports after the game. “(Owens) didn’t play very well last week (at Helena Capital). He wanted to show that he’s one of the top receivers in the state. Our quarterback hit him on a couple things, we had a nice long run from our running back, so it was a good day.”

The Bears host 2-6 Great Falls CMR on Thursday and close the regular season a week from Friday against 6-2 Senior.
