CENTERVILLE — Playoff football started this weekend in the 8-Man North. Centerville locked up the conference’s No. 3 seed with a win over Chester-Joplin-Inverness on Saturday in Centerville, 32-8.

Inclement weather couldn’t slow the Miners down. With the field plastered in snow, ball security proved to be an issue. CJI tried to punt in the first quarter, but a bad snap led to great field position for Centerville. The Miners capitalized with a 2-yard touchdown run by Blayne Kohut.

Kohut added his second rushing touchdown of the day in the second quarter to put Centerville up 12-0. On Centerville’s next possession, quarterback Carson McGinness found Grant Cotton across the middle, and Cotton went untouched into the end zone to put Centerville up 18-0.

The Miners would tack on two more scores en route to victory. Centerville can turn its preparation to the state playoffs, while CJI will play Chinook next weekend for the 8-Man North’s fifth and final playoff spot.
