MISSOULA – The Missoula Sentinel Spartans are off to a hot start in 2018, winning their first two games by a combined 67-point margin. The offense has been led by senior quarterback Rylan Ortt and running back Elias DeWaters.

The Spartans hosted Billings Skyview in Week 1, and Dewaters racked up only 47 yards on the ground but found the end zone two times and once more on a dazzling 50-yard screen pass.

Then came Friday night crosstown against Missoula Big Sky, and DeWaters was there on the big stage. The running back totaled 134 yards on the ground and added 42 receiving yards, ending the night with two touchdowns and a win. After the game DeWaters gave a lot of credit to the way the team is playing and doesn’t see why they can’t hang with the best of Class AA.

“I feel great. It’s great when you can come out and your guys are doing what they need to do so that it just makes it easy on us running backs and our quarterback to do what we need to do and get into the end zone and get the job done at the end of the night,” DeWaters said. “It’s really good, but I don’t think it’s anything for us. I don’t think we’ve been tested yet, and I think we’re still waiting for that big test to come and I think we’re ready for it now. We’re just working to get better every week and we’ll be ready when it comes.”
