(Editor’s note: Luke Gonsioroski, a former star quarterback and 4.0 student at Baker High School, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Aug. 7. Luke’s family received an outpouring of love and support from people in the communities across Montana and Texas Tech, where Luke was committed to play college football. The following is a thank you letter from Luke’s family.)

It is with saddened and humble hearts that we, the family of Luke Gonsioroski, would like to thank all the great people of the state of Montana and beyond our state for the prayers, love, and support during Luke’s courageous battle with cancer and his death. The outpouring of support across this state and the nation has been inconceivable. Thank you to each person, school, and organization for your words of kindness, strength, and love in Luke’s passing and the flowers, many cards, and generous donations in Luke’s honor to his memorial.

Thank you to Coach Kliff Kingsbury, the Texas Tech Football Program and the entire Red Raiders Nation for loving and accepting Luke as one of your own and for all the condolences and support you sent our way. Luke was truly honored to be a Red Raider and he could not wait to get to Texas! Your generosity has blown us away. We wear the Texas Tech logo with great pride.

May the faithful spirt of #5 never die, and Luke’s courageous spirit and his love for people and for the Lord live on. May his death not be in vain. As Luke said many times, “If just one person comes to Christ, then all my pain and suffering will be worth it.”

Thank you so much.

Charles, Katina, Hannah, and Hope Gonsioroski
