MISSOULA — Kalispell Flathead escaped Missoula with a 3-2 victory over Missoula Hellgate on Tuesday afternoon at the Hellgate soccer fields.

Skyleigh Thompson finished with all three goals for Flathead to lead the Braves to a big road win over Hellgate.

Thompson found the back of the net in the 16th minute to put Flathead up 1-0 to get things started. Hellgate responded almost immediately, though, after Kennedy Wells scored for the Knights off of an assist from Gabriella Beaton to make it 1-1 in the 17th minute.

In the 30th, Thompson scored her second goal and gave Flathead a 2-1 lead after taking a challenge from Hellgate’s keeper and still scoring, despite a collision on the play. Hellgate then tied the game again in the 38th minute when Maggie Gibbons scored from about 20 feet out on a nice kick that went right over the keeper’s hands.

The teams went back and forth in the second half with Hellgate finding more pressure, but the Knights were unable to capitalize. In the 70th minute, Thompson scored the game-winner, and Flathead held on down the stretch for the win.

Hellgate fell to 6-1-2 while Flathead improved to 5-3-1 so far this season.
