BUTTE – The Butte Central Maroon boys head to Hamilton Wednesday for the first round of the Western A boys basketball divisional tournament beginning on Thursday.. The Maroons play Libby, with then the winner playing against the winner of Frenchtown and Browning in the semifinals..

Head coach Brodie Kelly says there is nothing he feels his team needs to differently in order to be successful and give themselves the best chance to advance to the State A tournament. The Maroons are loaded with talent, which creates a nine-man rotation of their lineup. While most teams shorten their rotation come tournament time, Brodie and his squad will use that depth to their advantage, like they have all year.

“It’s nice to have depth, but it’s also a balancing act. You see most teams get to tournament time and shorten up their rotations, you saw it last week. Hamilton essentially played six guys and then another guy for six minutes,” said Kelly. “You know, Dillon shortened up their rotation Friday. I expect other teams to do that in tournament time, but we trust all nine guys. It’s just a matter of making sure we’ve got the right matchups and chemistry throughout, and that’s what our guys want, is for us to put the best lineups out that give us the best chance to win.”

Butte Central and Libby tip off at 2 p.m. at Hamilton High School.
