MISSOULA — Jaden Dennis and Marcella Mercer both took home first place at the MCPS Golf Invitational that concluded Tuesday at Canyon River Golf Club.
Dennis shot a 70 on Day 1 at Larchmont followed by a 72 on Tuesday to help lead Missoula Sentinel to the boys team title. Kalispell Flathead's Mercer shot an 80 at Larchmont and a 77 at Canyon River on Tuesday to secure first. On the team side, Flathead ended in a tie for fourth place.
"The biggest thing is being able to sleep in my bed, not having to share a bed with anybody, that was nice. Even though I didn't get much sleep it was nice to have it in your backyard. You know the course, you know the greens. There were a couple times where it really benefited me," said Dennis.
"This is actually my first high school tournament. I was not able to go to the last one, I was actually in a different tournament. So I wasn't able to go to the first high school one, so it's really nice to start the season with a win and it makes me excited for the rest of the season," said Mercer.
