GREAT FALLS – The northern town of Turner has a population that’s in the double digits, but two Tornadoes put the town on the map at the State C track and field meet last weekend.
Cody Welsh pulled a shocking upset after trailing most of the way in the 300-meter hurdles, pulling away at the end for a winning time of 40.87 seconds.
Then there’s Eddie Harmon, who became the first Turner product to ever medal at state last year. He repeated as the 800-meter dash champion again this year with a personal-best time of 1 minute, 57.48 seconds. Harmon also took first in the 400-meter dash with another personal-best time of 50.31 seconds.
“I’ve been practicing that a little more this year– kicking it at about at the 300, 250 mark and then just try to sprint the rest of the way out just to try and keep in the lead,” said Harmon.
“It means a whole lot standing out to our community and our school that much. Being that competitive in the state against all these other athletes, it’s a lot of hard work and it’s all paying off towards the end,” said Welsh.
