ANACONDA – It was a memorable state golf tournament for Manhattan Christian, who brought home every single award at the Fairmont Golf Course last week.
Eagles freshman Caidin Hill won the Class C boys individual state title and teammate Jillian Frye took home the girls title.
“It feels pretty good. It’s not every day that you get to play for a state championship, so it’s really a fun thing,” Hill said after the win.
“It’s what you worked for all season and all summer and all year long, and for it to come true is truly incredible,” said Frye.
Not only did Hill and Frye go home with titles, every Eagle did. Manhattan Christian swept the tournament, also winning both the boys and girls team titles.
“We hadn’t won a state championship since 2000 and then we won it last year and now we won it this year. A two-peat is crazy,” Frye said.
But it may have been even sweeter for Caleb Bellach and his golf coach and father Jeff. The two have come so close to a state title in basketball the past two years, and it must feel nice to finally hold up a title.
“They’re all sick of second, so they were definitely wanting to get that first-place trophy,” Hill smiled.
And even though Hill and Frye led the field both days of the state tournament, they could not have done it without their teammates.
“I definitely want the team to do better because they team means more when the school is doing great and our program is doing great, not as much just the one person,” said Hill. “Because it takes more than just one guy or one girl shooting a great score to win a state championship.”
