Posted at 6:16 PM, May 19, 2018

GREAT FALLS – The Class B-C state tennis championships were held at the CMR courts on Saturday. The girls singles championship featured Bigfork’s Ellie Berreth and Choteau’s Michaela Gunderson. Berreth defeated Gunderson in straight sets to win the state title 6-2, 6-1.

For the girls doubles championship, Fort Benton’s Megan Clark and Katie Giles faced Chinook’s Megan Pruttis and Sierra Swank. Giles and Clark won the state title 7-5, 6-1. This came after the Longhorn pair pulled a huge upset the night before, defeating the defending champions Dania Jones and Dalayne VanDyke from Conrad. The match came around 12:30 a.m., as athletes played into the early hours of the morning due to weather constraints.

In the boys singles championship, it was a match-up between Great Falls Central teammates. Defending state champion Roger Mai met Nicholas Scott. It was a hard fought match that went three sets, but Scott was able to defeat Mai to win the title, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. It was a great week for Scott, who three days prior placed seventh in the State C golf tournament in Anaconda.

The Bigfork twins Colten and Clayton Reichenbach faced Missoula Loyola’s David Ramsey and Dan Kaleva for the boys doubles championship. It was another intense match that ended in three sets, with the Reichenbach brothers victorious, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1, giving the twins a state title in basketball and tennis in the same year.
