Mike Henneberg named next Director of Athletics for Great Falls Public Schools

GREAT FALLS — In a media release, Great Falls Public Schools announced that Mike Henneberg has been named as the next Director of Athletics. Mike will transition from a Health and PE teacher and coach at CMR High School to the AD positon beginning on July 1. Henneberg replaces Gary DeGooyer who is stepping down at the end of this school year after 21 years of service to Great Falls Public Schools.

Henneberg began his teaching career in Bemidji, Minnesota in 1999. He returned to Great Falls in 2000 to teach health and PE and to coach. Henneberg taught at Paris Gibson Middle school, Great Falls High School and most recently at CM Russell High school where he has been an H/PE instructor (2004) and the Department Chair since 2009. Henneberg is currently the Head Track coach for CMR and the varsity defensive coordinator for the Rustler football team. Henneberg has been a leader on several curriculum committees and a strong advocate for student health and wellness in Great Falls Public Schools.

The school district went through a rigorous process to replace Mr. DeGooyer. Henneberg was one of five finalists which included CMR boys basketball coach John Cislo, longtime Montana administrator Tim Tharp, former MSU-Northern wrestling coach David Ray and former CMR wrestling coach Joel Auers.

On Friday, May 4, 2018, the five candidates were interviewed by two separate interview teams. The teams were comprised of district officials, coaches, parent representatives and a community member. Mr. Henneberg officially accepted the position, today, May 7, 2018.
