GREAT FALLS – Both Class AA track teams in Great Falls were able to hit the new track at Memorial Stadium for the first time this season on Monday. The paint finished drying over the weekend, and the smell of rubber still hangs in the air.

The track will see its first competition Tuesday in the crosstown city meet following a dedication at 4 p.m. Practicing on their home turf for the first time so late in the season brought a little bit of a weird change, and some relief, for Great Falls athletes.

“It’s pretty weird. I mean, we haven’t been out here all year. The first time is pretty nice,” said GFH senior runner and captain Teagan Olson. “It’s a really great facility and really looking forward to the rest of the year on it now. I’m really excited to get ready for crosstown (Tuesday). I think it’s pretty amazing that it happens to be the first new meet on the track. I think it’ll be really fun.”

The track will get some heavy use over the next few weeks with district, divisional and state meets, plus the Special Olympics summer games.
