MISSOULA – We continue our look at the nominees for student-athlete of the year at the KPAX Sports Awards Banquet. Caden Messer found success in whatever he tried at Missoula Sentinel.

Messer became a second-team all-state standout on the football field. He also earned all-state recognition in speech and debate. And he is finishing up his high school career with straight A’s, a 4.0 grade-point average.

Messer will go to Montana State next year with plans to eventually attend medical school for genetic and bioengineering. When KPAX asked who helped him the most through high school, he said he has a good couple in his corner.

“I think my biggest role models are definitely my parents,” said Messer. “They really kind of established this work ethic. They’ve really supported me throughout everything. I know that whatever I chose to do, they’d support me. They’d have my back.”

KPAX will honor Messer and the rest of the nominees and winners at the KPAX Sports Awards Banquet next Tuesday night. Dinner starts at 6 p.m. with guest speaker Bobby Hauck grabbing the microphone shortly after.

If you want tickets, swing by the KPAX station during normal business hours, at 1049 West Central Avenue in Missoula.
