Helena High, Helena Capital softball sweep Kalispell clubs Saturday

KALISPELL — Helena High and Helena Capital earned key Western AA softball wins on Saturday, sweeping past Kalispell Flathead and Kalispell Glacier in league play. Capital earned a 7-0 win over Glacier before a 17-2 five-inning contest against Flathead. Helena High defeated the Bravettes 9-1 and the Wolfpack 7-3.

Kacie Gross went 4-7 from the plate in the pair of wins for Capital, driving in one of the 17 runs against Flathead. Shelby Martin and Nichole Ames were each 3-4 against the Bravettes. Ames pitched to the win against Flathead, while Martin earned the win on the mound against Glacier.

Mariah English pitched impressive games in Helena High’s sweep, earning wins in each contest. She also went 3-8 from the plate, including a solo home run against Flathead. English caught help from all-state infielder Jamie Pickens, who went 5-7 with three RBI. Mackenna Schmolke drove in four runs between the two wins.

Helena High returns to the diamond on Monday, hosting Class A Belgrade at Mihelish Field. The Bengals return to league play on Saturday at Missoula Sentinel and Missoula Big Sky.

Capital also travels to the Garden City next weekend against the Eagles and Spartans.
