CMR track and field being patient as Memorial Stadium track still unfinished

GREAT FALLS – It’s been an interesting start to the season for the Great Falls CMR track and field teams. Not only was the away meet against Kalispell Glacier cancelled because of snow on April 6, but the teams’ previous meet on March 30 in Billings was originally supposed to be at Memorial Stadium in Great Falls.

But the new track isn’t ready yet. The construction crew needs about five decent weather days in a row of around 50 degrees so the last couple of base layers of the track can be put in. Montana’s sporadic weather patterns lately have prevented this from happening, but the team is being patient and is excited for the new track surface to eventually be completed.

“It’s been frustrating to an extent. It’s been kind of a challenge all things considered. We’ve tried to be positive about it, we understand that a lot of the other schools all over the state are in the exact same boat we are,” said CMR coach Mike Henneberg. “As far as the track goes, we’re excited for it to get done. We understood going into it that we were going to have to withstand a little bit of rain to see the rainbow at the end. We’re being patient, our kids have had a great attitude about it. We’re just doing what we can to get through until we can consistently get outside and get on a surface that has lanes painted on it.”

Memorial Stadium is expected to host the State AA and C meets this year on May 25-26.
