State B boys: Kendall Windy Boy’s monster game helps Rocky Boy to 3rd place

MISSOULA — Rocky Boy used a third-quarter run to cruise past Lodge Grass, 80-70, in the consolation final at the Class B boys basketball state tournament at Dahlberg Arena on Saturday.

With the teams deadlocked at 31 at halftime, the Northern Stars outscored Lodge Grass 31-16 in the third quarter to take a 15-point advantage into the fourth. Rocky Boy led by as many as 20 points in the third.

The Northern Stars made 13 of their 20 field goal attempts in the third quarter, while holding Lodge Grass to a 6-of-19 performance in the period.

Kendall Windy Boy had a gigantic game, tracking down 29 rebounds, 10 of which came on the offensive end. The 6-foot-7 junior added 20 points, on 8-of-13 shooting, and two blocks. Rocky Boy had a 56-37 advantage on the glass.

Ben Iron Eyes scored 22 points for the Stars, making five of his seven 3-point attempts. Wyatt Caplette chipped in 13 points for Rocky Boy.

Ethan Dust had his best game of the state tournament, scoring 28 points and collecting 11 rebounds for Lodge Grass. The Indians, though, made just 27 of 76 (35.5 percent) field goal attempts.
