Rocky Boy wins Northern B girls title, Poplar to challenge Wolf Point

CUT BANK — Jaylynn Mitchell recorded a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds and five blocks to help the Rocky Boy girls basketball team to the Northern B championship with a 76-52 win over District 2B champion Wolf Point on Saturday.

The Morning Stars led from wire to wire, jumping out to a 26-13 lead after the first quarter and never looking back. Adrienne Gopher had another big game with 20 points and eight rebounds while Sean Henry scored 17 points and dished out nine assists.

Four Wolf Point players scored in double figures led by Aubry Silkoski with 13 points. Abby Juve notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Wolves.

Wolf Point shot just 26 percent from the field compared to 38 perfect for Rocky Boy.

Poplar defeated defending Class B champion Fairfield 61-44 in the consolation final to set up a challenge game against Wolf Point, Monday at 7 p.m. in Glasgow for the North’s second seed.

Rocky Boy will face Townsend in the first round of the Class B combined state tournament in Missoula, on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
